our teams – transport team
Operations is the hub of any transport business. Quick thinking, prompt responses, clear, concise and timely communication at all levels is critical.
The success of our team therefore comes from a combination of strong and positive communication, a fun working environment, continued professional development, real professionalism and a mutual determination to provide the kind of service that keeps our customers coming back for more.
After leaving school Tom joined the RAF Regiment. He did 4 tours of Afghanistan and 2 tours of the Falklands. During Tom’s time in Afghanistan, one of his positions was that of force protection for the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT), whose role it was to protect the chinook helicopter when picking up injured or dead soldiers, or even the enemy. Tom would protect the doctors and pilots and assist in basic first aid.
When Tom decided on a career change his initial thought was to join the ambulance service, to build on his medical experience. The military provided Tom with his vocational driving licence and he joined Freightlink as a stop gap – initially driving.
Customers and office staff alike loved working with Tom and within a very short period of time he came to work in the office. Tom’s enthusiasm to learn and dedication to the job, resulted in his progression to Operations Manager and he was subsequently delighted when he passed first time his national and international Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
Tom is now a key and valued member of the Freightlink team. He heads our transport department – quotations, vehicle and route planning, customer and driver relations, vehicle maintenance, driver development.
